My Salvador Dalí study

As part of our art movements project I have made a study of Salvador Dali's 'departure of winged ship'. Im not a huge fan of surrealism because some of the work from this movement is just too odd. But I really love this picture because it reminds me of the power of imagination. 

My Van Gogh study

The next art movement that I just had to look at was Impressionism and post impressionism. I think some of the most famous and amazing painters thrived in this period. Monet, Cezanne, Degas and of course Van Gogh. 'Starry night' is another of my favourite paintings because i love the way it captures the moment of the sky and the blazing light of the stars. My favourite thing about Van Gogh was that he would often paint the same place at different times and he would always capture a different atmosphere. My study only took me about 10 minutes and I used chalk pastels so i could blend the colours, but I think i might try it again with oil pastels so i can have a go at capturing more of his mark making style. 

My Lichtenstein study

Anyone who knows me well will be able to tell you how much of a geek I am when it comes to anything to do with sci-fi or super heroes. I am a self confessed comic book nerd. So when I saw that pop art was on the list of art movements we could look at, of course my first thought was Roy Liechtenstein. Most people think Warhol at the mention of pop art but not me! I absolutely love his comic book style paintings and his use of bold colours. 'Whaam' is one of my all time favourite pieces of pop art and so here is my study of it.  

My Picasso study

As part of our current project we are looking at art Movements throughout the history of art. One of our tasks was to select a piece from 4 at movements of our choice and make a study of a famous piece from each one. One of my favourite artists is Picasso because I love the vibrancy and colour in his work and I think he had real talent for making the abstract look exactly like what he was trying to communicate. Here is my study of one of Picasso's most famous paintings 'Weeping Woman'.
